How to sell gift cards with Sizzle
Gift cards bring in cash now and bring people back later. With Sizzle, customers can buy a gift card in your app and send it to someone else, who then spends it in your app too.
Gift cards are included in the Pro plan.
Why sell gift cards
- Money now, visits later. Customers pay for a gift card up front and spend it with you over time.
- New customers. Every gift card goes to someone, and that someone gets introduced to you.
- Easy gifting. Birthdays, thank-yous, and teachers' gifts are all things customers already look for.
- Your own channel. Gift cards are bought and spent in your own app, not through a third-party marketplace.
How it works for your customers
Buying a gift card
A customer opens your app, chooses a gift card, and picks an amount. They add the recipient's first name and an optional personal message, then pay. Payments are handled through your Square account.
Receiving a gift card
The recipient gets a link to their gift. It shows the amount, who it's from, the personal message, and a gift code. From there they can download your app.
Spending it
Once they have your app, they enter the code on the Store Credit page. The amount is added to their balance, and they can use it on their next order.
If a gift has already been claimed, the link shows that it's been redeemed, so the same code can't be used twice.
Tips to sell more gift cards
- Tell people. Add a line to your counter signs, menus, and social posts: "Gift cards available in our app."
- Time it. Mention gift cards ahead of Mother's Day, Father's Day, Valentine's Day, and December.
- Push it. Send a push notification a couple of weeks before a gifting date.
- Make it easy. Show customers the QR code for your app so they can buy a gift card from their table or at the counter.
Good to know
- Customers need your app to spend a gift card, which means every gift card is also a reason to download it.
- Treat the gift link like a code. Anyone who has it can claim the gift, so customers should only send it to the person it's for.
